TESTIMONIALS

I would like to congratulate you and your team for the truly excellent experience you were able to provide our very demanding clients recently.  The way that you were able to respond quickly and creatively to a timing misunderstanding was truly admirable.  I know that everyone who spent the day with you came away with enhanced knowledge of the Palm Beach / Pittwater region and lasting memories of their day with the aboriginal people.

Your sense of touch and creative presentation is seldom found in our industry and you are to be congratulated for your efforts. We will have no hesitation in using your services should we next have clients who require a special experience.

Yours sincerely,

CHANNEL 9 SMALL BUSINESS SHOW
Success Stories

They say it's all in the packaging and promotion. And that's just what former BBC make-up artist Kit Moore has done with one of Australia's most breathtaking beach suburbs. It's not as if no one ever visits Palm Beach, sprawled elegantly between the rolling waves of the Pacific Ocean and the calm of Pittwater and the national park. It's just that Kit saw a greater potential - the chance to build a business which itself would boost revenues for other local enterprises, caterers, water taxis, coach and yacht charter companies.

Showcasing everything from the spectacular waterways and expensive yachts to surf club action and indigenous performers, to interstate and international visitors.

Steve: "When Kit calls, we're there. Fundamentally, Kit's business involves a number of small businesses in the area, of which I'm very pleased that we're a part of. She brings in people from outside, from all walks of life, that aren't in the local community".

Richard: "One of the groups we've done with Kit is we had some very important people who were coming from overseas to do a big business deal, they flew in, they were fairly jet lagged, we picked them straight up from their hotel in the morning, straight onto a yacht, had about two hours of wining and dining, did the deal and then went back to their hotel, and the deal was a huge success. I can't name names."

Kit had worked on shows like The Forsythe Saga and Hedda Gabler, Royalty, on A Country Practice in Australia with Royalty and treasures memories of some of the world's biggest stars.

Kit Moore: "For good reason, two are Audrey Hepburn and Ingrid Bergman, because those two women when they sat in the makeup chair, one always asks if there is anything specific they would like and they both said to me, you're the professional we'll leave it to you.

Film and TV work is very unpredictable and Kit wanted a more reliable income.

Like many good ideas, success was not guaranteed. "The first concept was basically a tour day that involved the area that I was in which was Pittwater, Palm Beach, Barrenjoey Lighthouse area", says Moore.

She underestimated the cost of promotion. "I lost a lot of money over this because I fell into the trap that a lot of people do coming from a totally non business background in a creative film television background where I got paid every week.

Kit re-launched the concept, targeting corporate and niche markets. "I spoke to a lot of people, in the industry, I had a lot of support from people like Tourism NSW who all the way through thought that my product, my ideas, were good and a great bouncing board for me. Friends in the industry and by joining corporate organisations like the American Chamber Of Commerce was very good for me." Says Kit.

The Palm Beach Experience offers a menu of various activities that can be mixed and matched according to the clients' needs and specific markets. "One is tourism and that is actually dealing with destination management companies that are bringing groups in but I deal with what we call special interest groups, so it's niche market, top end of the market." Says Kit. And conference organisers who are looking for something to do pre and post conference tour days, so again it's that upper level of the market, more of the academia in the tourist side and what we call the discerning traveller".

With limited resources, marketing became a crucial issue. She gambled successfully on having a website built.

"And that was a slow process for me because I was completely computer illiterate. I had no backing, nobody to support me to help me learn."

But it's had a dramatic impact.

"A hundred per cent change in my business since I've had it up I'm having daily contacts with people , emailing me for information from all over the world. Certainly with conference organisers, meeting planners, incentive program people here, corporates, they go into the internet looking for certain services and they pick up on me and I'm getting business I would not normally pick up."

Her latest marketing initiative gave conference organisers, meeting planners, in flight magazines and destination management companies a personal taste of the Palm Beach Experience.

Partnering with Sue Moffit's "Showing You Sydney" tours, the executives got a day long exposure to what their clients could expect from Sydney's botanical gardens and rocks areas to our beaches and lifesavers, Aboriginal dance and music.

Lena Malouf, from Lena Malouf Event Specialist who went on the tour said: "From my point of view, as a special events executive that was a good thing. We don't always get the sun, on days like this, it's been important for me to experience to make recommendations to the group that I have coming in from Miami next year I want to be firmly recommend the right situation for them.
